Future I-22
U. S. Highway 78 through Mississippi will be upgraded to interstate standards. Once that is completed it will become I-22. Currently, a study is
being prepared in regards to the U.S. Highway 78 Interchange at New Albany. The interstate designation also requires the construction of future
I-69 at the west end and upgrade of U.S. Highway 78 in Alabama. MDOT is expected to be completed with the upgrade of U.S. Highway 78 prior to the
other work being completed on this project.
I-55 from State Route 302/Goodman Road
The first two miles of I-55 from State Route 302/Goodman Road to the Tennessee State Line are currently under contract. This project is more than 98%
completed and is expected to be finished in late July 2008. The southbound traffic is presently at this time traveling on two of the newly constructed
lanes. Major improvements expected to be completed on this project are concrete median barriers, installing guardrail, installing permanent signs, placing
permanent striping, and paving along Stateline Road.
I-69
The Environmental Document for I-69 has been approved. Currently, surveying is being done for the design of the highway and right-of-way acquisitions are
anticipated to start in one year.
U. S. Highway 45A
The paving project of U. S. Highway 45A from the Noxubee County Line to Artesia should be completed in mid 2007. This will complete work in District
One under the 1987 Four-Lane Highway Program.
