The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is proposing to construct a new segment of U.S. Highway 45 near the
western limits of Columbus, Miss., which would tie in with existing US 45 north of the city. The purpose is to improve
safety and mobility for the traveling public and to prepare for any future anticipated needs surrounding the facility.
Traffic studies indicate that there will be sufficient traffic demand to warrant improvements to the existing highway.
The proposed project will also address traffic needs on surrounding routes depending on the constraints provided by the
public and required design safety standards.
