Highway 605 from Interstate 10 at Lorraine Road to Highway 67

Why is this project necessary?

The purpose for this project is to alleviate traffic congestion on I-10, Highway 49 and other routes in the Gulfport area, which include Cowan/Lorraine Road, Dedeaux Road, John Ross Road and Highway 67.

What’s happening?

This project provides for paving 8.2 miles of four-lane Highway 605 from Interstate 10 to Highway 67. The paving of four lane Highway 67 within the limits of the Highway 605 interchange is also included in this project. The grading, drainage and bridgework necessary to construct the new highway was completed in the fall of 2004.

Should motorists expect traffic delays?

Motorists are advised to pay close attention to advisory signs and heavy equipment while traveling through the work zone. Lane closures on existing streets are expected, but each route will remain open.

How will the project be funded?

Eighty percent of this project will be federally funded while MDOT provides the remaining twenty percent.

What company will perform the work?

Warren Paving, Inc., of Gulfport was awarded the contract at a cost of $16 million.

When will the project be completed?

The project is expected to be complete during the Summer 2007.
