Jones County Sheriff Teams up with MDOT for Inmate Litter Removal Program

JACKSON, MISS., Wednesday, June 18, 2008---The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is pleased to announce that the Jones County Sheriff’s Department will join the MDOT Inmate Litter Removal Program, according to Sheriff Alex Hodge and MDOT officials.  The Sheriff’s Department is excited to join this program as a means to effectively utilize this workforce to improve the appearance of the state highways in Jones County.

Each year, MDOT spends over $2 million dollars in an effort to keep Mississippi highways free of litter.  MDOT partners with local agencies, organizations, law enforcement, Keep Mississippi Beautiful, and other entities in its antilitter efforts.  This joint action helps to educate the public, and brings us all closer to the reality of eradicating litter from our state and displaying the beauty of Mississippi.

The Inmate Litter Removal Program, in conjunction with the local sheriff’s department, is expected to make a significant difference in the amount litter on the highways in Jones County.  

“We are very pleased to have the Jones County Sheriff’s Department on board for this program,” said Southern District Transportation Commissioner Wayne Brown. “The more partners we have to remove litter from our state the closer we get to the reality of a clean and litter-free Mississippi. The Inmate Litter Removal Program has proven to be a success in removing litter from our state, and we are confident that the residents of Jones County will agree.”

 


Greene County Sheriff Teams up with MDOT for Inmate Litter Removal Program

JACKSON, MISS., Wednesday, June 18, 2008---The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is pleased to announce that Sheriff Kevin Fortenberry and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department will join with the MDOT Inmate Litter Removal Program in an effort to remove litter from state maintained highways in Greene County.  The Sheriff’s Department has expressed its excitement over and confidence in this new partnership as a means of better serving the public interest.
