SIDNE (Simulated Impaired DriviNg Experience) is a battery-powered go-cart that simulates the effects of
impairment on driving skills. The simulator operates in two modes, Normal and Impaired. In Normal Mode,
the simulator’s steering, braking, and acceleration respond appropriately. In Impaired Mode, SIDNE reacts
with delayed steering, braking, and acceleration, similar to how a driver would react if driving while impaired.
SIDNE is available for demonstration at schools attended by students in grades eight through college, and for
various safety events. There is no charge associated with the demonstrations; however, we do have a few limitations.
Below is some general information for those hoping to schedule a demonstration:
|
| |
|
SIDNE requires a very large area (approx. 200 X 300 ft.). This is because SIDNE requires a set course be laid out, which
must have plenty of room for a safety zone, and for spectators.
SIDNE demonstrations can only be performed on hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete. No grass or gravel.
Demostration area must be flat and dry.
There must be a guaranteed audience of at least 50 people. (Exceptions to may be made for smaller groups in the
immediate Jackson area.)
It is recommended that SIDNE events be scheduled 3 weeks in advance. However, the simulator is very popular at the
beginning of the school year, near prom time, and at the end of the school year. So the earlier you call, the better.
