The Outreach Division’s mission is to present accurate and timely information that will increase safety, knowledge, trust and
understanding of this agency’s mission and goals. It also plans, develops, and coordinates all training activities for agency
staff development. Outreach is a full service division devoted to the design, development, and delivery of highly-experiential
learning events which are especially directed to develop and promote supervisory skills, technical leadership and executive
development.
We strive for excellence in facilitating the sending and receiving of information externally to the public, the media, other governmental
agencies, and the business world, as well as internally to Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) employees.
Activities performed include producing numerous print publications: annual reports, various brochures, the MDOT magazine, anti-litter
materials and more. The Division produces related videotapes and presentations in support of the department’s programs and activities.
Through its numerous training programs, Outreach aims to support the exchange of technical information and to encourage training and professional
development to meet today’s requirements. Professional development assistance is offered in the areas of certificate programs, technical training,
computer-skills training, leadership training, career resources, test preparation, continuing education, new employee orientation, and the MDOT
Employee Assistance Program. Outreach provides assistance to employees in certificate programs with continuing competency requirements in the areas
of Continuing Education Units (CEUs), Professional Development Hours (PDHs), and National Institute of Certified Engineering Technician (NICET).
- Outreach can assess needs and design training programs specifically designed for Division/District employees in order to maximize employee performance.
- Outreach provides numerous computer software courses available to all MDOT employees. The unit will work closely with Division/District in attempting to meet any specific computer-based needs that may be required.
- Outreach is also dedicated to providing the most beneficial training necessary for MDOT’s leadership. Training is provided through professional seminars, leadership training, team building programs, and advanced technology courses.
- Outreach is dedicated to equipping all employees with the tools necessary to perform at their highest level. Outreach provides a monthly two-(2) day orientation for new employees, provides continuing education assistance, and assists in developing courses for test preparation.
- MDOT recognizes its employees as its most valuable resource and is committed to employee health and welfare, including both physical and mental health. Outreach offers a confidential, voluntary Employee Assistance Program. The MDOT EAP provides assistance for those with substance abuse and dependency issues, AND for those whose lives have been touched with other issues, as well. MDOT EAP is designed help you find solutions to problems in other life areas, including: marriage and domestic relations, parent-child, adolescent behavior & school problems, depression and other emotional issues, financial problems, including compulsive gambling and job stress and work relationship problems.
