time with your family.

Variety of Career Opportunities - MDOT offers a variety of career opportunities, such as accounting, administration, archaeology, auditing, chemistry,
engineering, environmental science, equipment operations, human resources, information technology, law, law enforcement, maintenance, payroll,
professional development, public information, rail inspection, right-of-way acquisition, surveying, and transportation planning.
Job Stability and Security - MDOT is 88 years old and because we are the only self funded state agency we are better insulated against economic
recession, downsizing, and layoffs than other state agencies and engineering organizations.
All Fields of Civil Engineering - There is no organization in the state in which you can be exposed to so many aspects of Civil Engineering - site
layout, roadway design, structural design, foundation design, geotechnical, hydraulics, materials, traffic engineering, surveying, environmental,
airport planning and design, and on and on. Then, to be able to observe the actual construction of what you designed, it's the epitome of a civil
engineering career choice.
So Many Other Reasons - Competitive salaries. Innovative management. Teamwork. Opportunities. Satisfaction.
Meet People At MDOT
Annette, District Human Resources Manager - I am the Human Resources Manager in MDOT's Fifth District Office in Newton. I began my employment with MDOT
eighteen (18) years ago as a State Service Trainee. My duties included mail distribution and verifying reports. MDOT has provided me with many opportunities
to "move through the ranks" to my present position. I work with approximately 475+ employees throughout Central Mississippi whose responsibilities vary from
heavy equipment operators to professional engineers. I serve as liaison between the employees in my district and the Human Resources Division in the Central
Office. As a wife and mother of three (3) teenagers, MDOT has provided me with a flexible work schedule that allows me quality time with my family while pursuing
a career outside the home.
Carolyn, Civil Rights Director - For the past three years I have worked as MDOT’s Civil Rights Director and have held several other positions during my 11 year
tenure with the agency. My job allows me to meet a lot of people and travel. My division manages our Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program that attempts
to help minority and female contractors achieve greater participation on transportation related contracts. We also administer the agencies Internal and External
EEO policies to ensure that employees are not discriminated against and that the general public is given a fair deal in the benefits and services that we offer
to them. I like the stability that state government employment provides overall. I particularly like the flexibility and room for growth that a large agency like
MDOT is able to provide. I have worked in smaller agencies and employees didn’t have many options for advancement. Our facilities are great, especially the
parking lot, during a time when other state workers are having to walk blocks to park, the easy access of ours is great. I also like the fact that MDOT values
family, I have two small kids, and it is nice to know that they understand that and allow me to balance home and work.
Keith, Assistant Roadway Design Division Engineer - I am the Assistant Roadway Design Division Engineer. I have been employed in MDOT's Roadway Design Division
for 16 years. Our Division is responsible for producing the plans which are used for highway construction. My individual responsibility centers on assigning projects
to our individual design teams, monitoring their progress, and insuring that our deadlines are met. MDOT has allowed me to make a comfortable living, while benefiting from
a very low amount of job-related stress. I am fortunate to be employed in a very relaxed atmosphere, with a very friendly environment. There is no taking work home, physically
or mentally. I have duties and responsibilities that can be accomplished during normal working hours. Additionally, the generous leave time and paid holidays allow me to
spend time with my family, friends or on other hobbies.
