The Human Resources Division administers the department’s personnel program in accordance with the Mississippi Variable Compensation Plan.
The division guides the central divisions and districts in announcements of employment opportunities and recruitment efforts. Promotions,
demotions, transfers, reclassifications, and other job status changes are processed through the division to ensure compliance with applicable
employment law. The Equal Employment Opportunity Program administered by the division is central to the department’s goal of building a work
force that reflects the diversity of the citizens of our state.
The Human Resources Division provides assistance in the administration of all employee leave policies, coordination of retirement benefit
applications, filing of grievances, and management of all disciplinary actions. The division is also responsible for administration of
Personnel Services Contracts, temporary staffing, additional compensation (overtime, call back, stand by, etc), special compensation
(EIT and IS pay plans), and the processing of Educational Benchmarks. The division’s Workers Compensation Section handles the management
of all workers compensation files and cases.
For over 50 years the Human Resources Division has maintained cooperative education agreements with accredited universities to foster
interest in Civil Engineering and contribute qualified graduates to the engineering labor market. The division also maintains the Civil
Engineering Student Intern (scholarship) and Civil Engineering Student Apprentice (summer contract worker) Programs.
