Rover is a truck cab that spins on its own axis at 35 MPH to simulate a rollover crash. Cloth dummies placed inside the simulator are used to illustrate the effects of the rollover crash on unrestrained occupants. It is part of MDOT’s Drive Smart Mississippi program to increase seatbelt usage in Mississippi.
Rover is available for demonstration at schools attended by students in grades kindergarten through college, and for various safety events. There is no charge associated with the demonstrations; however, we do have a few limitations. Below is some general information for those hoping to schedule a demonstration:
|
| |
|
Rover requires an area of around 60 X 20 ft. plus additional space for spectators.
Demonstrations can be done outdoors or indoors. However, if the event is scheduled for an outdoor location, it will be cancelled and/or rescheduled due to rain or wet ground conditions if no alternate indoor location is available.
There must be a guaranteed stationary audience of at least 100 people. (Exceptions to this may be made for smaller groups in the immediate Jackson area.)
Demonstrations last approx. 15 to 20 minutes. Also, it takes approx. 10 to 15 minutes to set up Rover before and between demonstrations.
It is recommended that Rover events be scheduled at least a month in advance. However, the simulator is very popular at the beginning of the school year, near prom time, and at the end of the school year. So the earlier you call, the better.
Demonstrations can be done for large groups (150 people or more) in a setting such as a football field or multi-purpose arena. Smaller groups (approx. 100 people) can be accommodated on a level surface such as a parking lot, field, etc.
Rover has a self-contained PA and speaker system.
Finally, Rover must be placed within 100ft. of an electrical source (outlet or generator). The simulator will not work properly if the power source is farther away than 100ft.
