The Roadway Design Division is primarily responsible for the design and preparation of plans for construction of roadway projects.

Major functions supervised by Roadway Design staff include the following:

  • Coordinate highway and roadside design activities with the Districts, Divisions, the National Geodetic Survey, the Federal Highway Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the United States Corps of Engineers, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, and others;
  • Participate on location and design committees;
  • Prepare Roadway Design Manual for approval by the Transportation Commission;
  • Develop uniform standards and plans for roadway construction;
  • Coordinate development of transportation system construction plans according to the applicable design guides, national standards and current criteria;
  • Advertise, prepare and monitor engineering services contracts for plan development; and
  • Assemble contract plans for advertisement to contract.
