The Environmental/Location Division has the responsibility of coordinating the environmental clearance for Federal Aid, State,
Urban and other projects in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
It assists the districts and State Aid in determining the type of environmental documentation required, the location of alternatives
and in preparation of the Location/Design Committee Report for proposed projects. With the approval of the report, the division
initiates the necessary studies for the environmental consequences of the action. Information on the impacts (relocation, noise, cultural
resource, hazardous waste, air, water, endangered species, social, and etc.) is gathered and documented.
Environmental, in coordination with other divisions, and various local, state, and federal entities, presents the prepared documentation
to the Federal Highway Administration for its concurrence.
