This division issues permits for oversize/overweight vehicles, which are hauling non-divisible loads. The division receives most of its permit applications by telephone or fax and transmits most of its permits by fax. A large number of companies, which are routine permit users, have "blanket permits" that allow them to issue their own permits within certain parameters. A large number of permits require specific routing by permit staff, taking bridge conditions and clearances and highway conditions into consideration.

Demands for permits are at an all time high. During the past year the division issued over 160,000 permits. Permits fees generate revenue of approximately $6 to $7 million each year.
