The budget process requires coordination with several different areas within the agency including the Human Resources Division,
Programming, Procurement Division, Maintenance Division, Training, Financial Management Division, Information Systems Division and
the Districts.
The primary functions of the division include:
- Work extensively with divisions and districts in compiling budget requests; formulate the statewide legislative budget;
- Assist divisions and districts in analyzing budget data available from the new Financial Management System (FMS);
- Provides training to Districts and Divisions on FMS;
- Work with budget analysts at the Department of Finance and Administration and the Legislative Budget Office to answer any questions legislators may have about MDOT;
- Assist with presentations and prepare progress reports for legislators on gaming projects, the 1987 Four-Lane Highway Program, budget, etc;
- Provide financial reports to aid upper management in making sound financial decisions;
- Serve on the equipment committee and compile all information on equipment that is submitted to legislators;
- Monitor maintenance projects to ensure that MDOT spends all overlay funds; and
- Establish performance measures for programs and report progress on these measures to the Legislative Budget Office and the Department of Finance and Administration.
